Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are a coalition of co-conspirators involved in the Syrian civil war. Their principal goal is for the creation of of am autonomous Kurdish government in the city of Rojava, the SDF are centrally controlled by the fighters of a small minority, mainly from the People’s Protection Unit (YPG) and the Women’s Protection Unit (YPG), although slightly under half of the fighters identify under these groups. Syrian, Turkmen, Arabs and Chechens are amongst the other principal members of SDF, which additionally includes other foreigners, forming an international brigade which supported the movement in the movement of Kurds resilience, assaulting the Islamic State in the North of Syria. The SDF fought hard against ISIS, and although their position on the Assad government remained unclear, there was generally a good relationship with the regime in Damascus. With the support of a US-led coalition, the SDF are instead opposed to the Erdogan’s Turkey, which sees their group as a new for of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).
