New Silk Road Initiative

“New Silk Road” is the term commonly used to describe the immense strategy of connected infrastructure and commercialisation of large areas across Eurasia, which was announced in 2013 by Chinese president Xi Jingping, named “Belt and Road Initiative” (BRI). Taking the name of the of the historical Silk Road, the BRI represents, the greatest strategy of continental development ever proposed by a single nation and is testament to the global ambitions of a China becoming increasingly more relevant in terms of geopolitical profile. Over the course of a number of years, the “New Silk Road” has been expanded through the construction of infrastructure and the creation of a memorandum of understanding and agreements regarding loans and investments which will be managed under the direction of Chinese control over all of Eurasia, both in regards to its land routes as well as its maritime ones. China’s future objective is to form a multilateral strategy, so as to optimise their research for requests to make large economic investments
