European Union (EU)
The European Union is an international organisation that will gather, in March 2019 to formalise the exit of the United Kingdom, together with 27 other European countries. Born from the evolution of the European Economic Community in 1993, following the signing of the Treaty of Maastricht, the European Union united the member countries into a single market with commercial rewards and common laws, which saw the 19 members adopt the Euro as their common currency and organise their own institutions, for which the European Parliament is the only one elected through a vote by all citizens of the member countries every five years. Within the organisation, the top institution is the Commission, which represents its executive body, and the Council, in which the requests of the heads of government of the member countries are represented.
